It doesn't follow the story at all, which I also don't mind, but which some readers may not like. all the small animals that have accompanied Mom and Dad. As with all of Kress’s work, this is very nicely crafted, with well-paced prose that carries you through the story, complex human characters, a compelling and conflict-driven human story, a clever twist partway through, and an even cleverer twist at the end.
